Jeff Molina, a UFC fighter, has spoken out about his sexuality after a video of him performing a sex act on another man surfaced on social media earlier this week, glamsquad reports
The 25-year-old said in an emotional statement following the leak that he was denied the opportunity to announce his bisexuality the way he wanted.
“Not how I wanted to do it, but the opportunity to do it when I was ready was taken away from me.
“I’ve made an effort to keep my dating life off of social media. I’ve dated girls my entire life and suppressed feelings I had while on the wrestling team in high school, while pursuing MMA in college, and even after realizing a part of my dream and getting into the UFC.
“I couldn’t imagine my friends, teammates, and people I look up to looking at me differently, let alone treating me differently for something I couldn’t control.”
He also said that he was not planning to come out during his career, adding he wanted to be known for his skills rather than being the “‘bi UFC fighter”.
Molina, who is 11-2 in his career and 3-0 in the UFC, has previously shown his support for the LGBTQ+ community by wearing Pride Month shorts for his June 2022 fight. He’s currently on suspension for his alleged involvement in a gambling scheme.
Molina’s announcement makes him the UFC’s first openly LGBTQ+ male fighter.
