Toke Makinwa reflects on Hollywood setback as celebrates her 5th movie milestone

Media personality and actress, Toke Makinwa has opened up about her evolution in the acting world, discussing both the challenges and triumphs she has experienced along the way.

The actress, who has been steadily carving out a name for herself in Nollywood, shared a post in 2024 reflecting on her journey thus far. Toke revealed that she has worked on five movies this year alone, highlighting her expanding presence in the film industry.

In a post on her Instagram page, Toke expressed gratitude for her progress and the variety of roles she has been offered. She admitted that in her pursuit of success, she has missed out on numerous personal and social opportunities.

Toke also took the opportunity to share some valuable life lessons with her audience, particularly aimed at those driven by goals. She encouraged them to stay open to life’s unexpected turns and trust in divine timing, reminding them that success often unfolds in ways they may not anticipate.

Toke also reflected on her journey, recalling her move to Los Angeles three years ago with dreams of making it in Hollywood. Though her hopes were high, she admitted that the timing wasn’t right. In hindsight, she feels thankful for the opportunity to grow and establish herself in Nigeria before pursuing larger ambitions.

5 movies with yours truly, the second half of the year and I’m fully in my Acting Bag. Thankful for growth, grateful for versatile roles too. I’m really doing this guys.  There has been a lot of sacrifice too. I’ve missed out on so much fun things happening but there’ll always be time to turn up some more. Once I commit to something, I chase it with everything.

“3 years ago I moved to LA with the thought of becoming the next Nigerian to break into the world of Actibg out there, I was so sure it was the next move, started taking classes too. God said not yet. But gave me room to grow back home.

“I look back now and I’m thankful it didn’t happen cos I was not half as confident or even good or ready for the job. Today I’ve grown, I’m still learning but I’m much more confident. The dream is not wrong, the timing must be right to protect you.”
