Renowned Nigerian songstress, Tiwa Savage has shared why she has no plans to sign any upcoming artists to her record label.
Discussing the demands of nurturing new talent, the Water & Garri crooner admitted that managing musicians is an exhausting, never-ending responsibility.
In a recent interview with Forbes Africa, Tiwa explained that she doesn’t believe she has the “gift” for mentoring and overseeing artists under her label. She said:
“Everyone always says to me, ‘When are you going to sign an artiste?’ I don’t think I have the gift to sign another artiste, because artistes are stressful. I could just be sleeping, and then I will wake up and my artiste is trending for something else.”
The 45-year-old singer and mother of one added that she would rather support rising talents through alternative means.
Citing the establishment of a music school where aspiring musicians can refine their skills before joining record labels equipped to support their careers, Tiwa Savage added:
“But I do have the gift to help, which is why I am trying to do the music school, where you can go and later sign to a label that can actually help you.”
Tiwa Savage co-founded 323 Entertainment with her former manager and ex-husband, Tunji “Tee Billz” Balogun.
The label, operating under the umbrella of Mavin Records, primarily serves to manage her personal music career.
