‘Thy-Self’ Aims To Disrupt The Status Quo In A White-Dominated Wellness Industry

In the wellness boom of the past decade, during which Lululemon, green juices, meditation and boutique exercise studios became everyone’s favourite things, something was missing: diversity.

The wellness space, which by its very nature should be about encouraging health, wellbeing and happiness for all, has become dominated by middle-class white women who can afford to buy into every new health craze.

But what about those who don’t fit into that rather select category?

Chloé Pierre, founder of Thyself a community-based platform within the well-ness space, is making it her mission to broaden its reach, utilising her platform to make the wonderful world of wellness more approachable and accessible by challenging what is deemed “the norm”.

Pierre started Thyself after her own deep dive into all things wellness left her with questions.

After she turned 30 and her “whole life turned upside down”, it prompted her to embark on a “whole self-love and wellness journey”, she says over the phone.

“I wanted to enrich myself from the inside out, because it wasn’t external anymore. It was a lot to do with inside and how I felt about myself, so I went on my own journey and discovered a couple of things.”

Health and wellness refer to the state of complete wellbeing of the body, mind and spirit.

Some of the important aspects of the health and wellness industry include personal care/beauty, nutrition, weight management, fitness, preventive/personalized medicine, etc.

Wellness tourism’ is a growing industry, supported by travellers actively seeking ways to enhance their well-being on the go. …

And as it evolves and expands, auxiliary markets from food and drink to hospitality are starting to provide products that reflect the values of today’s health-conscious consumers.
