From time immemorial, the importance of smelling good has been drummed into our ears as we entered into puberty and adulthood.
We all should try, no matter our income, to ensure that we own a fragrance or two that we find pleasing to our sense of smell.
Knowing the importance of smelling good, the European fashion and beauty giants put themselves to the task and for decades we have had fragrances from brands like Dior, Chanel and other fragrance brands. For many years, we looked to France for the best perfumes some of which have staying power and the ability to last for hours whilst others fade away very quickly.
In recent times, the Middle Eastern fragrance houses have stepped on the scene with concentrated perfume oils that solved the problem of finding long lasting perfumes that stay on the skin all day long.
With a base of Ouds and Musks, concentrated perfume oils have become available at a reasonable price to all and sundry.
Whilst this is a welcome development, we need to know that perfumes with a large dose of oud and musk are considered heavier and should be worn in the colder months. Rainy season in the tropics and winter and other cold months in the temperate region are the perfect time to wear that spicy, musky fragrance to create a feeling of warmth.
However wearing heavy scents in the hotter months is not ideal. The combination of sweat and Oud is a terrible olfactory experience that should be avoided at all costs. Lighter and crisp smelling fragrances should be embraced during the summer months and dry seasons where there is a lot of heat and sweating to be done.
Citrus notes, lightly floral perfumes and fruity fragrances work well in the hot seasons to keep you smelling fresh all day.
As with everything else in life, scent etiquette is important and we must learn how not to offend surrounding nostrils or trigger allergies in others in our bid to smell good. Perfume lovers must make it a point to wear fragrances that complement the weather conditions you are currently experiencing.
Now that we have taught an introductory class on the topic, do your personal research and find what works for you to smell great in every season.
