The past 18 months or so have been tough ones for New York-based fashion brand, Marchesa. Founded in 2004 by Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, the brand’s success among Hollywood stars was partly due to the influence of Harvey Weinstein, husband of Chapman. “Weinstein reportedly pressured actresses who appeared in his films to wear the brand.” In October 2017, following multiple allegations that Weinstein sexually abused actresses, Marchesa’s popularity was largely affected as many celebrities shunned the brand. With the release of their Resort 2020 cruise collection, the brand reminds us why they still deserve a place at the top.
The Marchesa Resort 2020 cruise collection features exquisite evening dresses made of silk, organza and taffeta with floral patterns, voluminous volume application techniques, ombré coloured fabrics, embellished with precious stones and pearls, thread work feathers, hand-appliquéd crystals, ombré tulle, 3-D embroideries, cascading skirts and more.
According to the brand, the 3D silk organza flowers from the collection were individually hand-cut and delicately folded into natural looking blooms.
For their Resort 2020 collection, Marchesa combined both daywear and nighttime couture looks which would fit perfectly with brides, celebrities on the red carpet or a woman who just wishes to make a statement at any point in time. The mix in the collection shows just how the Marchesa woman would want to look pretty for tea or an afternoon out with the girls in lace and floral pieces and opt for the stunning luxurious dresses as she switches things up for the night.
Here’s a look at a few of our favourite pieces from the collection…
