Tess from The Last of Us, Annie Wersching dies at 45

After receiving a cancer diagnosis in 2020, Annie Wersching, who was best known for her roles as Renee Walker in 24 and Tess in The Last of Us, tragically passed suddenly at the age of 45.

Wersching’s spokesperson announced that the actor had passed away earlier today at the age of 45, as reported by Deadline.

Wersching received her diagnosis in 2020, although she went on to appear in The Rookie and Star Trek: Picard in the years that followed.

Since the news of Wersching’s death broke, tributes to her have poured in, including those from her husband Stephen Full. He said,

“There is a cavernous hole in the soul of this family today. But she left us the tools to fill it. She found wonder in the simplest moment. She didn’t require music to dance. She taught us not to wait for adventure to find you. ‘Go find it. It’s everywhere.’ And find it we shall. As I drove our boys, the true loves of her life, down the winding driveway and street, she would yell BYE! until we were out of earshot and into the world. I can still hear it ringing. Bye my Buddie. ‘I love you little family…’ “

The Last of Us director and Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann paid respect to the on Twitter saying,

“Just found out my dear friend, Annie Wersching, passed away. We just lost a beautiful artist and human being. My heart is shattered. Thoughts are with her loved ones.”

Troy Baker, who plays Joel in The Last of Us, also shared a tribute on Twitter. He said,

“Never waste an opportunity to tell someone you are grateful for the simple gift of knowing them. Annie, so much of Tess is what you imbued into the character. Your strength is her strength and in some way, you live on in not only her but the many roles you brought to life.”
