Onyeka Onwenu, a singer, songwriter, and actress known as the Elegant Stallion, was buried in Lagos.
A singing service was performed early Friday at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos, for close relatives, friends, and colleagues to pay their final respects to the acclaimed singer.
Following the service, her body was transferred to a private vault in Ikoyi for interment.
The event was attended by a small circle of friends and relatives, adhering to Onyeka’s wishes for a private and simple burial.
Among the notable attendees was Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
Onyeka Onwenu passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 72, after collapsing at an event honoring Dr. Stella Okoli, the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals.
Beyond her talents as a musician and actress, Onyeka was also a respected broadcaster, politician, and activist.
She is survived by her two sons, Tijani and Abraham Ogunlende.
