‘Stud Beauty’ Is The Next Big Thing…And We Cannot Wait!

If you haven’t heard of Doniella Davy, you may want to make yourself acquainted. The California-born makeup artist is arguably responsible for the biggest – and best – beauty trend of the Autumn Winter 2020 fashion shows, which saw everything from pearl-strewn hair, to diamond-adorned brows and studded nail art. While Doniella wasn’t present at the shows, it was her vision on hit HBO series Euphoria that seemed to inspire the trend.

The series, based on a popular Israeli show, centres on a group of high school students as they navigate love and friendship in a world of drugs, sex and social media. It is essentially a modern day Skins that tackles important and necessary topics from relationship abuse to transgender teens.

In the explosive teen drama, Zendaya, who plays protagonist Rue, alongside her costars Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie and Sydney Sweeney express their mesmerising characters through their experimental makeup, which involves jewels, studs and plenty of glitter.

On the runways, the Euphoria look translated into a number of standout beauty moments. Models at Christopher John Rogers wore bejewelled brows by MAC makeup artist Marcelo Gutierrez, who wanted to create “a modern ‘Christopher John Rogers’ woman who steps into a chic and elegant party.”

Meanwhile at The Blonds, CND nail artists alongside CND co-founder Jan Arnold created a dazzling display of nail art designs, including gold stiletto designs with 3D spikes, pearl adorned acrylic nails and even a heavy metal studded cross.
