The lead actor in the dystopian drama “Squid Game” on Netflix, Lee Jung-jae, has broken the record for Best Actor in a Drama Series at the 74th Emmy Awards in 2022.
Lee is the first Asian to take home the prize and win in that category.
He triumphed over other nominees Brian Cox for Succession, Jeremy Strong for Severance, Adam Scott for Severance, and Bob Odenkirk for Better Call Saul.
In his acceptance speech, Lee said “First I’d like to thank God above. Thank you to the Television Academy. Thank you to Netflix. Thank you to Director Hwang [Dong-hyuk] for making realistic problems we all face come to life so creatively and with a great script and amazing visuals.”
Squid Game was nominated for 14 Emmys and won four, including prizes for visual effects, guest acting, and stunt production design.
TV shows and actresses from June 1, 2021, to May 31, 2022 were honored at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
