How social media dismantled oppression in the music industry – Danny Young

Nigerian musician, Ajibola Danladi better known as Danny Young, has shared his insights on how social media is transforming the music industry.

In the latest episode of his podcast, Danny Young highlighted how social media has reduced the influence of industry gatekeepers, giving creatives more control over their careers.

He shared this while recounting an incident where a powerful figure intentionally removed him from an award nomination.

“The good thing is that social media came to expose many of them because it gave people the opportunity to express themselves. That is what led to the emergence of what we call Gen Z.

“My definition of Gen Z is freedom of speech, freedom of rights, and freedom of expression.”

Danny Young first made waves in 2006 with his hit song ‘Welcome,’ featuring Lord of Ajasa. The singer, music producer, and record label owner solidified his name across Africa in 2008 with ‘Koni Koni Love,’ a chart-topping hit that took the music industry by storm.
