Nigerian artist Gabriel Oche Amanyi, well known as Terry G, has stated that a physical assault on a DJ years ago harmed his career.

Terry G caused controversy for hitting DJ Jimmy Jatt’s protege, DJ Phreez, during an event in Lagos on June 5, 2016, for playing another artist’s song in an attempt to get him off stage.
His actions prompted the DJs Association of Nigeria, or DJAN, to ban him at the time. Speaking on the most recent episode of the Afrobeats Podcast, the ‘Akpako Master’ revealed that the incident hampered his development as an artist.
He stated that he later apologised to DJ Phreez and his employer, DJ Jimmy Jatt.
