Sir Sidney Poitier dies

Sir Sidney Poitier, the first black actor to receive an Academy Award for Best Actor, died at the age of 94.

Queen Elizabeth gave the actor, who is British and American, the Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1974 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2006.

Poitier was nominated for three Academy Awards, eleven Golden Globes, two Primetime Emmy Awards, six BAFTA nominations, eight Laurel nominations, and one Screen Actors Guild Award over his illustrious career.

He died today, January 7th, 2022, without being given a cause of death. He leaves six daughters behind.
