This women’s collection arrives just a few weeks after his stellar men’s presentation in January, and there’s a hint of that show here. Vaccarello had foregone the customary extravaganza in favor of something quieter, more intimate, and, of course, more elegant: A elevated podium runway from an old school, five incredible chandeliers, and two rows of jet black salon seats; all very YSL.

Vaccarello’s entire concept of elegance feels right for the time; an indication of how we’re heading into a reset, where all the din and clamor and sheer noise of fashion today doesn’t matter a jot if the clothes aren’t exceptional in their thought and craft.

In other words, prioritize design over diversion. In terms of his own design, Vaccarello’s mastery of the Saint Laurent house is now so complete, so in sync with its image and iconicity, that he doesn’t need to delve into the archives to find his path. Instead, he is guided by his own unerring feelings on where the house should go next, as if sensing the lingering notes of a still fragrant scent. He’s on the correct track, based on tonight’s outstanding performance.
