Runtown’s Early Life, Career and Awards He Has Won

Runtown was born on August 19, 1989, in Enugu State, Nigeria. He grew up partly in Abuja and Lagos, where he finished his primary education. Read also: Phyno reveals how he was advised to join a cult to boost his music career


After the death of his father, he moved to Abuja with his mother, who was working in the Ministry of Health. Runtown had his primary education in Lagos. He later moved to Lagos with friend and fellow singer Phyno in the late 2000s, where they began to establish themselves with their own label, Penthauz.

Runtown found some minor success with early singles like “Party Like It’s 1980” and the Timaya collaboration “Aunty Tolu,” but it was “Gallardo,” his 2014 collaboration with Davido, that brought him into the spotlight.


His Career

He has released several popular singles, including “Gallardo,” “The Banger,” and “Bend Down Pause”.

Runtown’s music is a fusion of R&B, Afro-fusion, hip hop, and reggae.

He has been associated with the Penthauz label, and he is currently signed to Soundgod Music Group.

Runtown has won several awards, including “Best Collaboration of the Year” at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

He has also been involved in some controversies, including a dispute with his former record label, Eric Manny Entertainment.

In December 2022, he released his latest album, “Signs”.
