At a New York preview, Puglisi claimed that they “sold like bread here in the US.” The demonic pinup print shirt from the men’s collection he was wearing (she’s got devil horns) attracted a lot of positive comments while he was attending Art Basel Miami during the previous three days.
’70s tailoring, seductive slipdresses in printed velvet, more ladylike proportions with voluminous skirts, stunning color-blocked double-face cashmere coats and capes with fringed hemlines, and more were all featured in the collection.
The sartorial pieces deserved special notice if the animal designs were what accounted for the flashier (and distinctly Cavalli) looks. As wild as the leopard themes, fur designs, and vibrant python patterns that enlivened the collection were the pointed cuts of blazers blending checks and Prince of Wales patterns and the tall side slits on matching pencil skirts.
Flocking jersey gave stretched tailoring a worn-in, corduroy-like appearance, but the standout piece was a leather suit with lace-up accents that was made from a patchwork of different types of leather.
