Rihanna Has Fallen in Love with Hedi Slimane’s Cabas Bag

Rihanna has fallen for the Cabas bag.

Between her Dior Oblique book tote, Balenciaga Wheel Beltpack and Louis Vuitton X Takashi Murakami vanity trunk, one could write a book about Rihanna’s airport hand luggage through the years. At least a novella.

The designer, who is yet to add handbags into her product offering at FentRihannay, strode into 2020 on 5 January with a new accessory dangling from her wrist: the Celine Cabas bag.

The Triomphe Canvas black and ochre bag with contrasting brown leather handles and bold white typeface is from the Celine Essentiels Haute Maroquinerie line of accessories.

Premiered in 2018 and available in stores since September 2019, the Triomphe Canvas is creative director Hedi Slimane’s reimagining of the brand’s 1972-born monogram. Inspired by architectural detailing on the Arc de Triomphe (hence the name), the link motif plays on heritage dressing, but demonstrates the laser-eye precision Slimane is known for.

The boxy Nano and Teen Triomphe bags with gold clasps err on old-school Sloane Ranger style, while the capacious Bucket, Drawstring and Cabas totes lean towards a bohemian French sensibility now celebrated at the house.
