Nigerian music stars, Rema and Asake, have earned a spot on former U.S. President Barack Obama’s list of favorite songs for 2024.

On Saturday, Obama unveiled his annual playlist, which includes Rema’s Yayo and Asake’s Active, featuring American rapper Travis Scott.

South African sensation Tyla also secured a spot on Barack Obama’s 2024 playlist with her hit track Jump, featuring Gunna and Skillibeng. Additionally, Nigerian-American artists Shaboozey and Jordan Adetunji made the cut with their songs A Bar Song and Kehlani, respectively.

Music heavyweights Kendrick Lamar, Beyoncé, and Karol G also claimed their spots on Barack Obama’s 2024 playlist, each with a standout track.

Sharing his playlist on X, Barack Obama encouraged music lovers to explore his selections and share their own recommendations. He wrote:

“Here are my favorite songs from this year! Check them out if you’re looking to shake up your playlist – and let me know if there’s a song or artist I should make sure to listen to.”

Barack Obama began this tradition during his final days as U.S. president, collaborating with Spotify to curate and share his favorite songs.

In 2019, Nigerian superstars Burna Boy and Rema made the prestigious list with their hit tracks.

In 2020, Wizkid’s chart-topping collaboration with Tems, Essence, earned a spot on Barack Obama’s annual playlist.

However, no Nigerian artist made the cut in 2021.

In 2022, Burna Boy’s Last Last and Rema’s Calm Down were featured on the former president’s list.

By 2023, Nigerian stars Davido, Tems, Burna Boy, and Asake all made it to Obama’s favorite songs of the year, highlighting the growing global influence of Afrobeats.
