Busta Rhymes charged with assaulting staff who was on the phone during work

American rapper and actor, Trevor George Smith Jr. better known as Busta Rhymes has been arrested and charged with assaulting his assistant, Dashiel Gables, in an incident that reportedly took place on January 10 in Brooklyn, New York.

Reports indicate that the altercation started when Busta Rhymes grew frustrated with Dashiel Gables for using his phone during work hours. The confrontation escalated, with Rhymes allegedly punching Gables multiple times, leaving him with a swollen left eye.

Dashiel Gables sought medical treatment at a local hospital before reporting the incident to authorities. Busta Rhymes later turned himself into the police on January 14, leading to his formal charge of assault.

In other news, Nigerian gospel singer Mercy Chinwo dragged her ex-manager, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, to court over the alleged diversion of $345K in music royalties.

In response to Chinwo’s accusations, the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed a motion to compel the manager’s court appearance. Consequently, the Lagos State Federal High Court issued a warrant for his arrest.

Onyedikachukwu is set to be arraigned on January 24, 2025, for allegedly withholding Chinwo’s rightful share of music royalties from her online platforms and concert earnings.

In an affidavit supporting its application, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) revealed that Mercy Chinwo had submitted a petition against her former manager.

The EFCC explained that repeated attempts to apprehend the manager had been unsuccessful, necessitating the request for an arrest warrant. Justice Alexander Owoeye approved the EFCC’s application.

Mercy Chinwo joined EeZee Conceptz, a record label owned by Onyedikachukwu, in 2017 after winning the second edition of Nigerian Idol.

However, in September 2022, reports emerged that Chinwo parted ways with the label following a dispute over financial matters.
