Prof. Wole Soyinka at 86! Check Out His Live in Pictures

An icon. A legend. A force. The writer Wole Soyinka is 86 today.

To celebrate, the writer shared photos of himself through the years, from childhood right until the present day.

Akinwande Oluwole Babatunde Soyinka, known as Wole Soyinka, is a Nigerian playwright, poet and essayist.

He was awarded the 1986 Nobel Prize in Literature, the first sub-Saharan African to be honoured in that category.

Soyinka was born into a Yoruba family in Abeokuta.

Who knew that little boy would grow up to be such a force, a genius?
