‘There is nothing to celebrate’ Phyna fumes as Nigeria marks 64th independence

Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Josephina Otabor, better known as Phyna has expressed deep frustration with the current state of Nigeria as the nation marks its 64th Independence Day anniversary.

Taking to microblogging platform X formerly Twitter, Phyna lamented about the lack of progress despite Nigeria marking 64 years of independence and stated that there was little to celebrate.

She highlighted widespread hunger, poor infrastructure, frequent floods, and the absence of quality education and roads as critical issues still plaguing the nation.

Phyna pointed out the growing disconnect between the government and its citizens, criticizing leaders for ignoring the voices of the people. She expressed frustration that despite Nigeria’s age, the country is still battling the same fundamental issues, with little progress in improving the quality of life for its citizens.

The reality TV star also likened Nigeria’s situation to that of an elderly person who remains unwise despite their age, highlighting the stagnation in the nation’s development. She confessed that instead of pride, she feels a sense of shame as the country marks another Independence Day.

“I feel there is nothing worth celebrating
There is hunger…… na who chop Dey celebrate…… we are 64years old in hardship, hunger, floods, no quality school and roads, no listening to the citizens by the Government.
We are 64 and sinking
We are 64 and homeless
We are 64 and nothing Dey sup
Like the saying even an old person can still be unwise.
It’s shameful
I rather cover my face than smile today!!!!!
Nothing to celebrate in the country.”
