PHOTOS: Meet oldest Nigerian in Canada, 103-year-old Obafemi Adeite

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), met Obafemi Adeite, the oldest Nigerian in Canada.

The 103-year-old can still be seen standing upright in photos and a video with Mrs Dabiri-Erewa.

On Thursday, the NIDCOM CEO shared photos of her meeting with Adeite on social media.

Adeite, according to her, was full of prayers for the Nigerian community in Canada’s care and support.

“My visit to the oldest Nigerian in Canada, 103 year old Chief Obafemi Adeite. He was full of prayers for the care and support from the Nig Community, particularly Dr Ola Kassim, @KingWaleAde, Funmi and many others,” she said.

When he turned 100, the late Queen Elizabeth sent him a congratulations message, which Adeite displayed to Dabiri-Erewa.

The NIDCOM chairman was astounded by his youthful strength.

“Agile and active as he displayed the congratulatory letter from Queen Elizabeth when he turned 100,” she said.

Queen Elizabeth, who honoured Adeite, died on September 8 at the age of 96 at Balmoral in Scotland.

Adeite offers a scholarship to Nigerian students studying in Canada.

In another report, a couple of celebrities have reacted to the revelation made by the chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, which stated that a lot of Nigerians in diaspora are relocating back to the country.

On Thursday, August 25, Dabiri-Erewa said this despite the fact that many Nigerians want to leave the nation. She was speaking at a press conference at the state house in Abuja.

She claims, “We speak about ‘japa’ as a one-way phenomena, but other Nigerians are continually returning home. Nigerians have made sporadic or regular homecomings to work in the fields of agriculture, healthcare, and other exciting endeavors.

Diaspora doctors set up the hospital where the VP was recently treated. I’m not saying Nigeria’s not a challenging environment, but we must also acknowledge those who are coming back home to do impactful things.”

While reacting to the news on an Instagram blog, Nollywood actress Shan George stated, “The person that reported that to you is lying ma.”
