Perfume Review: Coco Noir by Chanel

In 1984, the house of Chanel made a statement to the perfume world through their release of “Coco”, a fragrance with an invigorating blend of woods, flowers, resins and fruit. As a result of the success of Coco, they unleashed a flanker of it, this time Coco Mademoiselle, a brighter and fresher alter ego of Coco, opening up with an outburst of citrus and fruits, interpolated into a flowery composition, highlighted by a vetiver and patchouli base. Although, Chanel knew Coco was still missing something; that profound quality, that deep and mysterious aura, that dark and sensual vibe. Chanel knew they had to fill this void. And voila, Coco Noir was born.

Coco Noir is a ‘floral woody musk’ fragrance created by Chanel’s renowned in-house perfumer Jacques Polge. It was released in 2012.

NOTES;

TOP: grapefruit, bergamot.

MIDDLE: jasmine, rose, narcissus, geranium.

BASE: tonka bean, patchouli, balsam, olibanum, vanilla and white musk.

Notes I mainly perceived:

Balsam:  From the first spray, I actually smelt balsam all throughout. Balsam is dominant.

Patchouli: Another very dominant note in this fragrance. It can be perceived few minutes after it has been sprayed.

Grapefruit: After the fragrance has settled down a bit, the citrus notes start to come out; grapefruit mainly. At this point is when you really start to enjoy the fragrance.

Fragrance character:

From my perception, this perfume portrays;

“….A mature, affluent and sophisticated woman who is in control. A woman who leaves an impression everywhere she goes, with her alluring and coquettish charisma.”

Age range: I recommend this fragrance to women in their 30’s- late 50’s. (This fragrance has quite a mature vibe to it. I don’t recommend this to youths.)

Price range:  Essenza Lagos: N48, 000

RATINGS

Uniqueness: 8/10 (8 because the scent is a bit familiar)

Versatility: 7/10 (I strongly recommend this fragrance for night time events; probably a fancy dinner, gala, or social gathering etc. It can be used at any time of the year; although, preferably autumn/fall and winter.)

Sensuality: 8/10

Longevity: 8.5/10

Projection: 7.8/10 – It actually depends on how it works with your skin. If you are very particular about the projection of your scent, purchase the Eau de Parfum (EDP) version.

Actual scent: 8/10

Overall: 8/10
