Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God has once again got Netizens over his comments about women who wear makeup.
While speaking at the Redemption City in Mowe, Ogun State, the clergyman stated that women who wear makeup, especially on their wedding day, do not believe that God made them perfectly. He also emphasized that when getting married, one should “cut their coat according to their cloth,” implying the importance of modesty and contentment.
He noted that many women aspire to emulate worldly trends, expressing his shock at some of the things he sees today that weren’t prevalent in the past.
The clergyman further criticized women for spending hundreds of thousands of Naira on photoshoots and weddings, wearing heavy makeup in the process. He argued that these actions suggest they don’t believe God did a good job creating them, emphasizing that they are wonderfully and perfectly made by God.
“When you marry, you cut your coat according to your clothes. Some of you want to be like the people of the world. I can’t even imagine some of the things I see now. It wasn’t so in the beginning.
People spend hundreds of thousands of naira on ‘shoot out’ (photo shoot). And then, on the day of the wedding, the girl put on all manner of decorations. Those who do makeup are those who do not believe God did a good job.
When God created you, He did a great job. You are wonderful, perfectly made, and you cannot find any other fellow like you. You are special.
When you begin to paint, and you think you can improve on what God has already done, you are a fool. You can never improve on what God has done”.
His statement sparked significant backlash, with many people expressing their disagreement in the comment section. Critics argued that makeup is a personal choice and has no bearing on one’s faith or belief in God’s creation.
