Ooni of Ife reveals reason behind marrying several wives

Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, has explained why he has been marrying different ladies for a while now.

Following his string of marriages, the Ooni, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has drawn attention, particularly as he prepares to wed Princess Temitope Adesegun, his sixth wife, today, October 24.

Nine months after Prophetess Seyi Naomi declared on Instagram that she was divorcing the Ooni of Ife, in September 2022, he invited Mariam Anako, an Ebira-born queen, to his Ile Ife palace. He married six more ladies in a span of three weeks after welcoming Mariam.

The monarch got married to Mariam Anako and Dr. Elizabeth Akinmuda in September.

In October, he married Queen Tobi Phillips, Queen Ashley, and Queen Ronke Ademiluyi.

Princess Temitope Adesegun would be his sixth wife.

The Ooni has finally explained why he wedded Mariam Anako and the other people as he celebrates his 48th birthday and seventh coronation anniversary.

The Ooni indicated that he attempted to make several adjustments but was unable. The monarch remarked about the historical heritage of Ile Ife, maybe alluding to his choice to have concubines in addition to his single queen.

“This institution is bigger than me, beyond me. People in this palace are more than 800, they are close to a thousand. There are some people who have been living in this palace for more than 60 years, while some have lived here for more than 80 years old. Some people are over 100 years old in this palace.

If I had my way, I tried to challenge it but it blew in my face but thank God I’m still alive. It’s an institution that is rich in heritage, culture, and tradition,” he said.
