Onyekwere wins historic gold medal in women’s discus, takes Nigeria’s medal count to 8

Glamsquad reports that Chioma Onyekwere of Nigeria has won a gold medal in the women’s discus throw at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022.

Onyekwere won with a throw of 61.7 meters on her third attempt. Her season-best throw is 61.70m.

 

 

 

England’s Jade Lally won the silver medal with a 58.42m throw, while Nigeria’s current national champion, Obiageri Amaechi, took bronze with a 56.99m throw.

At the end of Day 5, Team Nigeria had eight medals: three gold, one silver, and four bronze, but they were ranked tenth on the medals table.

 

 

Australia still leads the medals table with 86 medals – 34 gold, 24 silver, and 28 bronze – while England is second with 72 medals – 27 gold, 28 silver, and 17 bronze.

New Zealand comes in third place with 24 medals, including 13 gold, seven silver, and five bronze.
