In a bid to supporting the dreams of tomorrow’s fashionpreneurs, Africa’s biggest ankara and Hollandis print brand Vlisco through its Fashion facilitation fund dolled out a whooping sum of 2 million naira sponsorship grant to one of its top three finalists at its Vlisco Fashion Fund 2017.
The fashion fund happens to be one of Vlisco’s brain child initiatives that invests in the African fashion industry, empowering women and young entrepreneurs with the vision of creating a platform that connects Africa’s fashion talent and creativity with the knowledge of and activities of Vlisco in the African and global fashion world.
The project involved a tedious and tasking process in which the contestants headed by five top judges in different fields in the fashion industry whom took the selected 40 applicants through a rigorous interview in the first round and later given assignments to make business and cocktail outfits using Vlisco fabrics in which the outfits made by these applicants were showcased to the jury which includes:
Lanre Da-Silva Ajayi -LDA
Joan Ibuzo – House of Marie
Afua Osei – She Leads Africa
Dotun Akande – Vlisco Ambassador/Patrick Speech and Language centre
Mr Uche – Fashion Illustrator
Mr Ethan – Fashion Illustrator
In what appeared to be a mountainous task, Oluwakayode Etti who is the founder of his own clothing brand Skentele by Etti emerged as the winner for VFF 2017 and still can’t believe his eyes as he was being handed the check by the jury.
