Obi Emelonye’s Film Oxford Gardens Wins Big At African Film Awards In London

Nigeria’s multiple award winning film maker Obi Emelonye who shocked the Nigerian film industry with his first award winning movie Mirror Boy released in 2011 which followed with the much acclaimed survival thriller movie Last Flight To Abuja and Onye Ozi respectively. Last year, Obi Emelonye released his new movie with the title Oxford Gardens with impressive reviews from critics. Earlier this year, it was nominated for seven categories at African Film Awards held in London last night winning three out of the seven nominations in its category. Best Film, Best Director and Best UK Nollywood actress.

Oxford Gardens tells the tale of Julius a down-on-his-luck ex-boxer in search of redemption…and Munachi a pretty, bubbly young girl with a dark secret. Their chance meeting on a park bench in Oxford Gardens one summer afternoon sets in motion an unlikely friendship and an uplifting journey through their respective fears; and through hope, faith, and love; to a stoic acceptance of whatever life throws at them.
