With a slim-fitting midiskirt suit covered in lipstick red sequins and a fragile vermilion number in see-through chiffon with a sensual peekaboo bra in dazzling candy pink satin, a series of red costumes represented the many stages of erotic entanglement. Black represented fury, shock, and betrayal; a ruffled see-through evening gown in black chiffon that could have been worn by a grieving widow communicated these emotions.
Because they were torn and destroyed “in a fit of messy rage and despair because they were actually never worn as the marriage didn’t happen,” according to Dell’Acqua, the white embroidered short dresses that were modeled after vintage bridal wear alluded to weddings but didn’t really have happy endings.
Italians, however, are extremely passionate people, and falling in love is considered a national sport. When love calls, who can resist it? The excitement of falling in love—even with the most horribly inappropriate person—fills life with zest and daydreaming, and Dell’Acqua acknowledged the cheery atmosphere with softly colored lingerie gowns that were expertly layered and slightly off-center.
