Nollywood has again lost one of its veterans as Columbus Irisoanga passes away.
His colleague, Hilda Dokubo, shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, expressing her deep sorrow. In an emotional tribute, she questioned whether heaven was running low on angels, as it seemed the few left on Earth were being called home.
Overcome with grief, she lamented the devastating loss, describing her heart as heavy with sorrow.
“There can’t be a shortage of Angels in heaven that the few here are called home like this na!
This one is heavy on Uniport, Rivers State, Nollywood. Our uncle Coli @colu_mbusirisoanga has gone to be with the Lord. Ikoli eh dein na mu”.
Brief Bio
Born and raised in Okrika, Rivers State, Dr. Columbus Irosanga was a revered Nollywood veteran, best known for his commanding portrayals of chief priests in films. His most iconic role was Igbudu in the 2001 blockbuster Isakaba, a performance that cemented his legacy in the industry.
His remarkable talent earned him several prestigious accolades, including Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), Best Actor in a Drama at the City People Entertainment Awards, Most Promising Actor in Nigeria at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), and Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Best of Nollywood Awards.
Beyond acting, Dr. Irosanga was a respected academic, serving as a senior lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Port Harcourt. He dedicated his career to nurturing the next generation of actors, leaving an indelible mark on both Nollywood and academia.
He was married and is survived by his children. While the cause of his death has not been disclosed, his passing is an immense loss to Nigeria’s entertainment and academic communities.
