Niyi was born on February 27, 1978, Niyi Johnson is one of the established actors in the Nollywood Yoruba scene. The actor is known for his versatility and has been in the industry for over 15 years. Johnson was born in Lagos. He grew up in the Ikotun region of Lagos. He drank a lot of garri and sometimes sold coconut just to pay the bills. The actor attended the Polytechnic Institute of Ibadan before going to the State University of Lagos, where he majored in history and international relations. The actor revealed that he is a workaholic and is usually on-site practically every week. Johnson also revealed that he is an ordinary guy and can be quite playful.

Career Life


Johnson started in church, where he used to act in plays before moving on to television series and soap operas. In addition, he revealed that he used to go to the Internet cafe where he sent emails to marketers indicating his interest in acting.

 

He finally made his breakthrough when he met Mr. Ray Austin at Remi Star Blue, where he was trained in acting. In addition, he learned makeup, costumes, production, directing, and management at the same time. It was after training that he started to audition in Lagos. The actor starred in Tinsel before diving into Yoruba movies. The first novel he presented was Cynthia Okon, produced by Fuaad Bankole. It was after this soap opera that he appeared on Tinsel. During his experience in Tinsel, he felt that he was not considered one of the great protagonists and that was one of the reasons why he devoted himself to Yoruba films.

Currently, the actor is mainly involved in Yoruba films. His first Yoruba film was Motaka Osi Danu, produced by Lekan Ayinde. Two movies put Johnson in the spotlight. It was Ojiji mi and Oritoke. In Oritoke, he played the role of a fool. According to him, she was a unique character because it wasn’t something people had seen him play before. His role in the film caught his attention and some people still call him by the name he played in the film, Jimoh.

The actor also revealed that he is one of the few actors in the Yoruba industry who usually asks for his scripts before performing. Johnson revealed that he needs to read his scripts before going on set because he needs to know how to fit in with the character.

Johnson is married to Nollywood producer Seyi Edun. Before his marriage to Seyi, he was married to another Nollywood classmate, Toyin Aimakhu. They were married in 2013. They were separated on charges of treason. It was reported that the actor was trying to come to terms with his Toyin Aimakhu, but the actor refuted the claims and said it was the actress who was doing the legwork to make sure they would get back together. And he has evidence to back up his claim.
