Fola David, a Nigerian doctor and hyper-realism artist, has established a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the largest drawing by an individual.
The Lagos-based visual artist, who hoped to draw 1000 square metres of art to reflect Nigeria’s different cultures, began the six-day challenge on July 16 at Onikan Stadium.

On Friday night, in a now-trending social media post, he wrote: “Congratulations to everyone. On Day 4 at 9 p.m., we beat the current record of 629.98 square metres, but we’re not finished! The goal is to cover over 1000 square metres of canvas with drawings; we are now at 689 square metres. “Let’s go!”
Notable Nigerians who have visited David include the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi; former GWR holder Hilda Baci; and Farooq Oreagba, the businessman who stole the show at the 2024 Ojude Oba Festival, among others.
The management of the College of Medicine University of Lagos, CMUL, also visited David, an alumnus of the college, to show their support.
