Tokyo James is possibly the first Nigerian-based menswear designer to show on schedule at London Fashion Week Mens, one of the four biggest menswear showcases in the world.
In a collection premised on the duality of good and evil existent in the human experience, Tokyo wowed us with a SSn20 collection that at once had all of the Tokyo James signatures: strong use of leather (this time in bold primary colours; reds and mustards, seen on biker jackets and light coats); and immaculate tailoring. But, there were also some new elements, most notably in the use of knitted wool: appearing in a drool-worthy striped short jumpsuit and as an embellishment on jackets.
This was a designer who was clearly comfortable stepping onto the world stage. Welcome to London, Tokyo! Long may you stay and prosper.
