Friendship is defined as a bond of affection between two people. Communication, sociology, social psychology, anthropology, and philosophy have all investigated it as a stronger sort of interpersonal tie than an association.
Friendship is a great bond, and knowing that you have at least one person who will always have your back is always reassuring.
It’s also comforting to know that, despite their hectic schedules and busy lifestyles, Nigerian celebs have a special link with a friend whom we may refer to as their “bestie”.
However, there are several reasons why people become friends and if the reason isn’t genuine, that ‘ship’ is bound to sink.
Glamsquad Magazine brings to you, Nigerian celebrities who became friends in 2021 and those who fought dirty on social media:
- Tonto Dikeh, Jane Mena and Kpokpogri:
Although Kpokpogri isn’t a celebrity, somehow (or by the help of Tonto Dikeh – lol) he has managed to make it to this list.
The social media war between former lovers turned worst enemies, Tonto Dikeh and Kpokpogri set the internet on fire, and married Instagram twerker, Jane Mena, wasn’t spared as a ‘stray bullet’ hit her.
The drama started after a purported recording of Kpokpogri, bad mouthing Tonto Dikeh hit the net. Tonto called off their relationship, but it didn’t go down well with Kpokpogri. A social media war then started between the both of them. Along the line, Tonto then revealed that Kpokpogri allegedly has a sex tape with popular married Instagram twerker, Jane Mena, an allegation Jane denied and threatened to sue the mother of one.
Furthermore, another purported recording of Kpokpogri allegedly ‘confessing’ to sleeping with Jane from ‘morning till night’ as she doesn’t get tired of having sex hit the net.
In the recording, Kpokpogri alleged and insinuated that Jane Mena controls her husband, as ‘she was the one who married him.’
It’s safe to say the recording shut her (Jane) us, as she didn’t file a lawsuit as promised.
- Maria Chike and Liquorose:
Bothe ladies became a household name after their participation in the just concluded Big Brother Naija “Shine ya eyes” edition.
Maria and Liquorose called each other ‘my bestie’ during the show and have since kept the same energy. Their friendship has continued to wax stronger, we love to see it.
- Nedu Wazobia FM and his ex-wife Uzoamaka Ohiri:
Uzoamaka Ohiri, the ex-wife of popular on-air personality Chinedu Ani, also known as Nedu Wazobia, was not forgotten in 2021.
Ms. Ohiri, who had previously accused her husband of domestic violence, said she didn’t know her first child’s paternity until a DNA test was performed.
She accused Nedu of assaulting her just weeks after their child was born through Cesarean section.
Nedu would eventually respond to her charges, claiming that their marriage was beset by problems.
The radio personality and Instagram skit maker, said, ‘‘The continuous infidelity from her side made me conduct a paternity test on our kids which led to the revelation that our first son is not my biological son’’.
During her interview with Goldmyne, Ms Ohiri explained the origins of the DNA issue, saying, “I was seeing someone before Nedu, he was on the side troubling me, he had invited me a couple of times.” I declined his offer. Nedu and I reconnected after the relationship ended.
“Along the line, I found out that I was pregnant. Trust me, if I knew that my first child was not for him, I wouldn’t have married him. I can’t deliberately pick another man’s child and give it to another man. If I knew, I wouldn’t have gotten married to him. On my wedding day, I was pregnant, everybody saw it.”
He also released a copy of the DNA test, which was completed by Viaguard Accu-metrics, a forensic laboratory in Toronto, Canada, to back up his claims.
Since their separation four years ago, Nedu has claimed that his marriage has been dissolved, but his estranged wife has challenged him to produce the divorce papers.
Ms. Ohiri was then cautioned by the police, who allegedly warned her not to make comments against Nedu on social media, and the children were given to Nedu.
- Nigerians Vs BBNaija’s Boma and Tega:
Since its premiere on July 24, the Big Brother Naija ‘Shine Ya Eye’ series has seen a number of evictions and turmoil.
The housemates and fans were shocked by Tega and Boma’s purported love connection.
Tega, a married mother of one, was a fan favorite from the start. She cut the picture of what the ideal married woman in the BBNaija house should look like: good-looking, clean, homely, and fun-loving.
Boma, 34, on the other hand, believed himself “exceptional” and defined himself as “attractive, intellectual, adventurous, strong, and fit.”
He had a burgeoning acting career in the United States before to BBNaija, and was well-known for his cameo performance in the ‘Blacklist’ series. He said he worked as a bartender at night and a masseuse during the day to make ends meet.
On September 1st, viewers of the most popular reality show were astonished to witness a viral video of the both of them kissing passionately and intimately during the lights out. Tega slid into his duvet with evident hand and body movements.
This sparked interest and outrage among fans of the show. Tega and Boma were dragged mercilessly, with Tega taking most of the blame for “sleeping with another man on national TV while being married.”
But Boma later apologised to Nigerians for his actions in the house via his Twitter account. Tega, on the other hand, said that she and Boma were simply following a script to entertain the audience. ‘‘Nigerians please forgive me. I’m sorry for my actions.’’ Tega pleaded on September 7 as she sobbed.
- Toyin Abraham and Mercy Johnson:
Superstar actresses, Mercy Johnson and Toyin Abraham, became quite close this year. The duo shared videos of themselves on their social media pages and wrote amazing things about each other.
Their friendship started after Mercy Johnson was offered a role in Toyin Abraham’s box-office movie, “The Ghost and the tout too.”
One of their videos on social media early this year showed them wishing fans Happy Mother’s Day while announcing that something huge is coming in September.
“Happy Mother’s Day from me and my paddy @mercyjohnsonokojie. September is about to be lit,” Toyin captioned her post.
Mercy echoed her friend with the caption “Every day is Mother’s Day for my paddy @toyin_abraham and I on this one. Something hot is coming in September.”
