Nigeria ranks 103rd among 121 countries facing hunger crisis – AfDB

According to Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Nigeria is ranked 103rd out of 121 countries facing a hunger crisis, glamsquad reports.

On Monday, Adesina announced this at the launch of Nigeria’s Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ).

 


The AfDB President also stated that Africa faces enormous challenges in meeting its food needs, with 283 million people going hungry each year, despite the continent’s massive agricultural potential, with 65% of the uncultivated arable land remaining to feed over 9 billion people by 2050.

He stated;

 

“According to the Global Hunger Index (2022), which was released just a week ago, Nigeria ranks 103rd out of 121 countries worldwide facing a hunger crisis.”

“Hunger cannot be justified in Nigeria.” Nigeria has the land, with 34 million hectares of arable land and a diverse and rich agroecology.”
