New Twitter CEO begins ‘major reorganization’

Following the resignation of founder Jack Dorsey, Twitter’s new CEO, Parag Agrawal, is reshaping the firm.

According to the Washington Post, Agrawal announced a “major reorganization of the company” today, which appears to include the departures of Michael Montano and Dantley Davis, the heads of engineering and design, respectively.

Twitter acknowledged the restructure and a spokeswoman stated, “Parag is focused on operational excellence and setting Twitter up to accomplish its goals; these adjustments were made with that in mind.” The changes include implementing a “General Manager model” for teams in the product and technology organizations, which will result in a single person overseeing work in those divisions. “We will be able to operate more cross-functionally and make faster, more informed decisions as a result of this,” the spokesperson added.

Davis earlier today tweeted a picture from a team offsite, saying “It was the highlight of my two years at Twitter. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this such a memorable occasion. It has meant more than words can express.” Sara Beykpouf, who worked on the company’s product team, also announced that today would be their last day at Twitter, though it’s unclear if this is related to the reorganization.

According to a companywide email obtained by The Washington Post, Montano and Davis will be leaving by the end of the year (basically this month). According to the report, the “reshuffling appears to mostly affect the company’s consumer, revenue, and core tech departments, which will be led by Kayvon Beykpour, Bruce Falck, and Nick Caldwell, respectively.”

This appears to be the perspective expressed in a series of tweets issued by Twitter’s Investor Relations account yesterday during the Bank of America Securities 2021 Leveraged Finance Conference. The team, in particular, stated “We can move more quickly and execute more effectively. We’ll stick to the same goals, metrics, and tasks. However, we believe that Parag can help us make faster decisions and be more clear about where decision-making resides.”

We believe we have the right strategy in place, and Parag will build on Jack’s solid foundation, allowing us to move faster and execute even better. $TWT
