Shell will leave the company immediately, according to the corporation, following an examination performed by an outside counsel.

“Today marks the end of my tenure as CEO of NBCUniversal. “I had an inappropriate relationship with a female employee, which I deeply regret,” Shell admitted in a statement.

“I’m truly sorry for disappointing my Comcast and NBCUniversal colleagues; they are the most talented people in the business, and having the opportunity to work with them over the last 19 years has been a privilege.”

The brief statement did not identify the woman or provide any other information about the investigation.

Shell was named CEO in January 2020 after overseeing NBCUniversal Film and Entertainment’s content creation, programming, and distribution.

Shell had voiced confidence in NBC’s Peacock streaming service, which had 20 million paid users at the end of 2022 and “nearly tripled” its revenue to $2.1 billion, according to its fourth quarter earnings report, which concluded in 2022. However, its adjusted earnings loss was greater.
