Singer, Paul Okoye of the P-Square group better known as Rude Boy, groaned about the Naira scarcity that has been affecting Nigerians over the past few weeks after he experienced it himself.
He took to his Instagram story to reveal that he bought Naira in disbelief. According to him, he needed to make a cash payment for a transaction and was left with no option but to buy the Naira.
Paul said he had to pay as much as seventy thousand Naira to get forty thousand Naira.
He wrote:
“Omoh!!! I buy money today!! Just because I have to pay for a certain visa fee in an embassy, and it has to be paid in cash. Jokes apart I bought 40k with 70k Aahhhh!!!!!!! Naija breaking new record.”
Nigerians have been plunged into a state of hardship in the past few weeks over the scarcity of the new Naira notes.
Rather than seeking permanent solutions, the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, the Supreme court and the Presidency have continued to gamble with its decisions.
On Thursday, President Muhammadu Buhari ordered that the old ₦200 note and the new ₦200 should be allowed to coexist till 10th of April 2023. This comes after violence erupted in some states and Nigerians continue to suffer for decisions made by the government.
