Kunle Afolayan was born in Ebute metta region of Lagos state on Monday, September 30, 1974. So if you asked about “Kunle Afolayan Age”, now you know. You are only a few months old and under 47 years old. His parents reside in Lagos and consequently, he had to be raised in Lagos, where he did his basic education (primary and secondary education). He majored in economics and also holds a degree in digital film production from the prestigious New York Film Academy, a qualification he obtained in 2005.

Interestingly, he is from the Igbomina tribe. The Igbomina are the direct descendants of the second son named Oduduwa, Orangun Fagbamila Ajagunnla. Presently, the Igbomina inhabit parts of Kwara State (3 local government zones) and Osun State (2 local government zones). After graduating with an undergraduate degree, Kunle, like many other young people, entered the workforce and was absorbed into the banking industry. But the love of acting and film was very strong and soon the wavering young man was focusing on the film industry full time. And like his dad, the late Adeyemi Josiah Afolayan (aka Ade Love), Kunle started acting but quickly found a niche in film and production.

 

This was after sharpening his teeth with a digital film course at the New York Film Academy in 2005. Starting his career as a director and production, he founded “Golden Effects Pictures Limited” which is a film production company with a broad interest in film equipment leasing and consulting. Golden Effects Picture was the platform he needed to bring a movie to life. The first production job to come out of his filmmaking career was this thriller that he produced and directed in 2006. The energy put into this project was just incredible and it was like a breath of fresh air, something different and new. This movie “Irapada” ended up winning the prestigious Africa Movie Academy award in 2007 as the best film in an African language.

The success of “Irapada” would be more reproduced in films such as “Araromire”, October 1st, Troca de Telephones, etc.
