In a statement from Australian broadcaster Network 10, “MasterChef Australia” host Jock Zonfrillo has passed away abruptly at the age of 46 just before the start of the new season.

Zonfrillo entered the well-known cooking competition in 2019 and was scheduled to appear alongside Jamie Oliver, a guest judge from the United Kingdom, on Monday in the debut of the new series.

Network 10 obtained a statement from Zonfrillo’s family in which they expressed their shock and grief over his passing.

“So many words can describe him, so many stories can be told, but at this time we’re too overwhelmed to put them into words. For those who crossed his path, became his mate, or were lucky enough to be his family, keep this proud Scot in your hearts when you have your next whisky.”

Zonfrillo is survived by his wife, Lauren Fried, and four children.
