Mariah Carey has set a new Billboard record by returning to the top spot with her hit holiday song All I Want For Christmas Is You for the fourth year in a row, just days after topping the UK charts for the second time ever.
The 1994 hit has now spent nine weeks at the top of the Hot 100 chart, making it the first song to hold the position four times.
The catchy song first topped the Hot 100 in 2019, and then again in 2020. It made another appearance in 2021, and it’s back again in 2022.
The festive song also has the longest run at number one on the Hot 100, lasting three years, from December 2019 to December 2022.
Mariah’s new number one spot also extends her record for the longest period of an artist ranking at number one on the chart – over 32 years – dating back to her debut week in 1990 with her debut single Vision of Love.
The announcement comes just days after Carey returned to number one in the UK with the smash hit on Friday.
The singer has only previously reached number one in the UK singles charts once, with the festive track, in 2020 – 26 years after its release.
After a six-week reign with her single Anti-Hero, Mariah knocked Taylor Swift off the top spot.
