Watching this collection felt like witnessing a conversation between two longtime friends. Much of this dialogue was accessible to outsiders, revolving around Pharrell’s broader Louis Vuitton designer project showcased in Nigo’s home country, Japan.
Highlights included stunning silk souvenir-style Speedy bags, sakura-pink Damoflage ski suits inspired by cherry blossom season, an intricately crafted origami bag (complete with an origami lobster), gyoza-shaped clutches, and a tough rockabilly section reflecting Tokyo’s counterculture.
Other notable elements included the transformation of the “Dandy” monogram into a Shippo weave pattern, the Koi and Mount Fuji-themed collection logo, and trunks designed to carry tea and sake sets.
Some references felt deeply personal. A flip-phone keychain and the new Y2K-inspired Buttersoft runner sneakers harked back to their early collaborations during the Bape era.
The narrow-brimmed denim caps paid tribute to Nigo’s signature headwear. One standout bag, an inside-out canvas and leather design, featured three time-lapse portraits of Pharrell and Nigo spanning their nearly three decades of friendship. Only 30 of these exclusive bags will be available on a see-now-buy-now basis.
