Willow’s message for spring 2023 is that anything lovely can turn on us if we don’t take care of it. This message was inspired by the election of a more progressive government in Australia. We fail to realize that the clothing we wear comes from the earth. Although the lack of affordability of sustainable clothing is a recurrent criticism, Willow argues that someday the most expensive clothing will be that manufactured from innovative materials. “Virgin materials will be very expensive and will be a huge luxury.

She aims to increase the proportion of her collections that she produces from wasted material, like patchwork denim and bias-cut silk for lingerie and corsetry, after opening the upcycling workshop Future From Waste Lab in Melbourne.

Willow put off revisiting corsets until a sustainable mesh, knitted out of recycled marine trash in an Italian plant powered by solar energy, became available, returning to her design beginnings as a manufacturer of undergarments.

This season, she cleverly concealed one in a cotton shirtdress that billows at the back, giving it day-to-night versatility. Timelessness was a guiding principle this season, on show in a series of easy shirting-inspired dresses knotted at the waist, and staples like t-shirts.
