Zhang’s pre-fall collection drew inspiration from the film, incorporating signature elements like buttoned peacoats and bold red hues. Adding his own flair, Zhang infused sultry details into the lineup, including black fishnet tights, glimpses of skin beneath shirt sleeves or at dress shoulders, and an ornate cheongsam featuring a daring thigh-high slit.

“It’s seduction in a controlled manner,” the designer explained. Proud to call himself a dressmaker, Zhang dedicates substantial time in his Chinese atelier, personally overseeing pattern-cutting and collaborating with his seamstresses on the finishing touches.

The collection featured sleek, versatile silhouettes tailored to appeal to Zhang’s diverse clientele—Chinese socialites, Middle Eastern modest dressers, and London’s party enthusiasts. Together, the pieces create a cohesive wardrobe, which aligns with the designer’s ultimate vision.

Highlights included opera coats adorned with floral prints inspired by in-house-designed ‘60s wallpaper, trench coats embellished with intricate beadwork, and black and white guipure lace dresses and sets. Even casual pieces, like denim jeans or a crystal-embroidered shacket featuring floral motifs, were crafted with couture-inspired techniques.

With the festive season in full swing, Zhang’s vibrant designs have taken center stage at Selfridges in London, showcased in an expansive pop-up on the women’s floor for two months. His label is also carried by Harrods, Harvey Nichols, and Liberty.

“Even when I’m in China, I feel like such a Londoner,” Zhang remarked. “I have deep ties with the London crowd, who have always supported independent designers like me. I’m grateful these department stores took a chance on me, helping to nurture my brand.”
