Nigerian chef Hilda Effiong Bassey popularly known as Hilda Baci on Monday 15th May 2023, broke the existing Guinness World Record and set a new record for the longest cooking duration by an individual.
Hilda commenced her cooking tournament on Thursday, May 11 to Monday, May 15. She cooked for 100 hours non-stop, thereby breaking the previous record of 87 hours, 45 minutes held by an Indian chef, Lata Tandon, which was set in 2019.
For her 100 hours cooking tournament the 27-year-old chef cooked a total of 35 sides, soups, cold dishes, and sauces, which were mostly Nigerian cuisine.

The chef who doubles as a TV presenter and actress, fed over 3,000 people from the dishes she cooked. All through the 100 hours of cooking, Baci was only allowed five minutes of rest per hour.
The Akwa Ibom-born chef, took a clue of her career from her mother who ran a local restaurant business. Her mother’s restaurant was called Calabar Pot Mama.
She took interest in this family business, developed and expanded it and makes a living from it.
Hilda earlier revealed that it has always been her dream to break a record in the Guinness Book of Records. This fueled her desire when she took on the challenge.
“The journey to the cook-a-thon started five years ago. It is one of my biggest aspirations and I am glad that I took the bold step to embark on this adventure. I have taken time to prepare for this psychologically and I am proud to finally take on this challenge”, she informed reported at the onset.
According to her the cook-a-thon is a proof that young people are full of potentials which can only be achieved if they have the right platform and support.
“The cook-a-thon is also an opportunity to tell some of the positive stories that come from Africa through the meals that we make. This attempt is also proof of the strength young people can exhibit with the right platform and support. I look forward to receiving support from people across the world to achieve this feat,” she said.
This is the second time Hilda Baci would set a record internationally. In 2021 she won the Jollof Face-off war against Ghana.
