Former Liverpool winger Maxi Rodriguez urged Messi and former Argentina teammate Sergio Aguero to play in his testimonial game on June 24.

Rodriguez retired from football after his third stint with Newell’s Old Boys in 2021.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he was unable to schedule his farewell match at the time, and it will now take place in June.

The game will feature Newell XI against Argentina XI.

Juan Pablo Sorin, Marcelo Bielsa, Javier Zanetti, Lionel Scaloni, and Gabriel Heinze are also on the guest list.

Gerardo Tata Martino and Jose Pekerman will lead the two squads.

Messi’s possible involvement would increase the game’s excitement level.

“Hopefully, it’ll be an unforgettable day,” Rodriguez told Football Transfers. Messi is definitely invited. We want him there, but he’ll make his decision as the game gets closer. Leo, like everyone else, will make an effort to attend.”
