Lee Mathews Releases New Workroom Collection

Lee Mathews is a name that is often delivered – in the UK, at least – with a rising inflection.

The Workroom launch comes in response to customer demand and Mathews’s own gut feeling. “The bigger issues of climate change and how that impacts our industry pose huge questions,” she says.

“I have felt that the pull of having to come up with something new every season, and being recognised as a brand that does “such and such” (for us, it’s dresses) was not really a true representation of who I am or what the brand is. We all dress simply in our office – I live in a shirt and skirt or pants everyday, yet it was a small part of what we really focussed on.”

“It reminds me of those working outfits that creative women like Anni Albers or Georgia O’Keeffe used to wear: practical, pockets, neutral, functional – just what you need.”
