The social media influencer and socialite was freed from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after a six-month term for mishandling the naira by dispensing it at gatherings.

A video shared on social media showed the crossdresser departing the prison area in a car, accompanied by two associates.

In additional footage, the crossdresser, during an interview with GoldMyne TV, implored Nigerians to cease the mistreatment of the naira, suggesting they take a lesson from his experience, emphasizing that not only criminal offenses can lead to imprisonment.

He said; “You have to obey the rules and law, don’t spray money o, or else you will come and be a landlord inside the Kirikiri, so stop spraying money.

“Trust me, it is not all about killing or any criminal activities – something slight can actually take to inside there.”

On April 5, 2024, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged a crossdresser with six counts of money laundering and related offenses, leading to a conviction.

During the trial, Justice Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos dismissed the fifth and sixth counts pertaining to money laundering, leaving the first four counts standing.

Consequently, the judge sentenced him to a six-month imprisonment for Naira abuse. Justice Awogboro imposed the sentence without the option of a fine, stating it should deter others from misusing the Naira.

The commencement of the jail term was set on March 24, which was also the day of his arrest.

Bobrisky’s situation was akin to that of actress Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, who faced conviction for spraying and stepping on new Naira notes during a wedding in Lagos.

A video clip that captured Ms. Omoseyin dispensing new Naira notes at a wedding in Lekki on January 28, 2023, became widespread, resulting in her detention on February 1, 2023.

On February 2, Judge Chukwujekwu Aneke sentenced Ms. Omoseyin to either six months in jail or a fine of N300,000.
