Junior Pope honoured with posthumous award in Enugu

Late Nollywood actor, John Paul Obumneme Odonwodo better known as Junior Pope has been honoured with a Posthumous Award by Enugu State Governor Dr. Peter Mbah, months after his tragic passing.

Glamsquad recalls that Junior Pope and five others lost their lives after drowning at Anam River, Anambra State on April 10th, 2024 on their way to a movie set in Asaba.

The event, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, was announced on Tuesday by producer Nani Boi. Sharing the news on Instagram, Nani Boi described the late actor’s legacy as timeless. He wrote:

“Posthumous award to the late great Junior Pope. Forever Green In Our Hearts. Thanks to the Enugu State Government via the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Junior Pope lives on.”

The award is part of the inaugural Nollywood Legends Awards, created to celebrate both late stars and living legends in the industry.

Other late stars nominated include John Okafor (Mr. Ibu), Enebeli Elebuwa, Sam Loco, Saint Obi, Moji Olaiya, Ada Ameh, and Muna Obiekwe, among others.

In other words, singer, Ayodeji Balogun, better known as Wizkid, has become the first African artiste to perform at the British Fashion Awards.

Wizkid closed the 2024 British Fashion Awards ceremony with a captivating performance of his hit song, ‘Troubled Mind.’

The event, which was held at London’s most iconic venue, Royal Albert Hall, was attended by A$AP Rocky, Rihanna, Dave Chappelle, Tems and other celebrities.
