Jennifer Lopez’s mother Guadalupe Rodríguez has disclosed that she always wanted her daughter to reunite with Ben Affleck.
The Shotgun Wedding star appeared on TODAY for an interview to promote her forthcoming film ‘The Mother’, however, her wedding to star actor, Ben Affleck also became the topic.
JLo’s mom, Rodríguez had a brief appearance during her interview, where she revealed that she was always yearning for her daughter to end up with Ben Affleck after they parted ways back in 2004.
While talking to the show hosts, Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie, Rodríguez said
“I knew that you would always get back together because I prayed for 20 years,”
“OK,” said Lopez while rolling her eyes at her mom before asking the hosts to change the topic as she said, “Let’s keep going.”
At one point during the interview, the singer-actor also shared how having kids and marriage to the love of her life has changed her.
“I love what I do.
“I have always said that, but since I had kids, that changed for me. Now, having a family in this way and being married, you start rejiggering everything. What is really important? How much do I want to work?”
After becoming engaged in 2003 and subsequently splitting up in 2004 to start families with other partners, Affleck and Lopez rekindled their relationship in 2021. They eventually tied the knot in 2022, almost two decades after their initial engagement.
Prior to her mom’s confession, Lopez elaborated on her relationship to Hoda Kotb, calling Affleck the “love of her life.”
She said her upcoming album, “This Is Me … Now,” speaks to their decades-long love story, capturing the “moment in time when (they) first got together.”
“I went on an incredible journey through my life for past 20 years, and I think I’ve grown a lot. The album is really about capturing those moments in time. Falling in love and having that moment, then 20 years later trying to capture what this moment was, which was a very different thing”.
Lopez said her kids, 15-year-old twins Max and Emme, “love” Affleck.
“He’s a wonderful, wonderful father and father figure to them. He has his own three beautiful children and then there’s us and he’s fantastic. He really steps up to the challenge of what that is and what that means and they love him. They love him. They appreciate him and so do I”
